Psychology-led: Managing Intense Emotions Group
The ‘Managing Emotions Group’ will be facilitated every Thursday morning in the Centre for Living by Dr. Muireann McNulty, Senior Clinical Psychologist from the CluainMhuire Community Mental Health Service.
Method
The group introduces participants to the Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model. Participants will learn how emotions are related to actions (behaviours) and thoughts (cognitions). They will learn to recognize vicious cycles in their lives that accentuate difficult emotions, as well as how to set up virtuous cycles that increase positive emotions. Three stand-alone sessions are offered each looking at a different aspect of managing emotions: looking after physical health, looking at actions and looking at thoughts.
